The Secret: a thirty year old unsolved treasure hunt

In 1982, author Byron Preiss hid twelve ceramic containers in the continental United States. Each container contained a key to a safe deposit box containing jewels, and he hid clues to their locations in a book titled The Secret.

Only two of the containers have been found: one in 1982 and the other in 2004. Preiss died in 2005, and no other containers have been found, but curious truthseekers formed an investigative wiki to speculate on the locations of the other containers. Additionally, the book has been scanned and OCR processed, so anyone can participate in the hunt for the hidden keys with little to no cost.
