Kryptos

I am planning on using this blog mainly to keep track of unsolved ciphers. But hey, if anyone ends up reading this, great. Who knows, we might even solve it together one day.

With that out of the way, might as well start with one of the most famous ones, already covered in-depth by Elonka Dunin.

Kryptos is a sculpture situated in the CIA office grounds. It has four large copper plates, each one with an encrypted message. So far only 3 of them have been solved since its inauguration in 1990.
Number 4 is still unsolved. Its creator Jim Sanborn has given 2 clues up to date.  One is that NYPVTT, the 64th-69th letters in part four, become "BERLIN" after decryption. The other was that MZFPK becomes "CLOCK" after decryption. This has made many think of the Berlin Clock, to which Sanborn reacted by saying "You'd better delve into that particular clock," but added, "There are several really interesting clocks in Berlin."

The first part of Kryptos is fairly simple, and solves to:

Here is the second part of Kryptos. It's been solved already, but is just a little harder than the second part!
